The "Silver Screen," television, PC and now mobile handsets - media convergence is increasingly about converging these four and optimizing their mix. How does the Web, specifically the Rich Web, play into this process and what are the business implications? If the Fourth Screen is mobile, what are the usability, security, and bandwidth issues that developers and business alike need to be aware of? What role will advertising play in speeding up (or slowing down) adoption? Tese and other issues will be discussed by our resiewnt experts.

Speaker Bios:
Dave Meeker is Director of User Experience Strategy at Roundarch. He is responsible for the strategic direction behind client engagements and manages aspects of relationships with both Adobe and Microsoft. He has been leading digital design and development projects for 14 years, and previously served as Managing Partner of EffectiveUI and Director of Custom Applications at Whittmanhart, Inc.


Matthew Quinlan is vice president of community development at Appcelerator, an open source rich Internet application company. Quinlan has been programming continuously since 1981. He has focused on Web technologies since 1997, when he became chief architect of ValueAmerica.com, one of the first online retailers. As a professional consultant, Quinlan provided guidance on Web development, architecture and content management to Motorola, UPS, Sprint, Vanguard, Intel and dozens of other companies. He has taught courses on Java and J2EE and was a founding member of the JBoss evangelist team, where he spoke about open source software, Java/J2EE and Web application development at industry events and users groups around the country. Quinlan holds a bachelor's degree in Computer Science from Purdue University.


Ben Rushlo, Sr. Consulting Manager at Keynote Systems is one of the world's leading Internet performance experts. Ben advises Fortune 500 and Fortune 1000 companies in the Retail, Automotive, and Financial Services industries, helping to transform their global sites into high- performing, highly available Web assets that provide excellent customer experiences every time.

Before joining Keynote, Ben was a Senior Performance and Capacity Planning Engineer at American Express, where he served as a core member of the team that launched American Express on the Web.

With more than 10 years of experience in Internet and intranet technologies, Ben has expertise in Internet performance and performance tuning.

Ben is a frequent speaker at executive summits, industry symposiums in retail and financial services, and test and performance conferences and appeared on CNBC live broadcasts.


Bill Scott is the Director of User Interface Engineering at Netflix, the world's largest online movie rental service. At Netflix he is guiding the UI Engineering team's efforts to continue Netflix's excellence in user experience, improve client performance and refactor the presentation tier to use the latest best practices for both the DHTML layer as well as the Java tier layer.

Scott is currently finishing up an O'Reilly book called Designing Web Interfaces: Principles and Patterns for Rich Interaction. The book covers 75+ interaction design patterns, several anti-Patterns organized into six design principles for designing rich interfaces.

Previously, he led engineering for Yahoo! Teachers, a Web 2.0 community allowing teachers to gather, organize & share web resources and lesson planning. In addition, as an Ajax Evangelist at Yahoo! he focused on spreading the goodness of "rich and sane" AJAX design & development. Bill is a frequent speaker at conferences and workshops discussing the nuances of good design and the challenges of great engineering. At Yahoo! Bill was also the Design Pattern curator where he launched the public Yahoo! Design Pattern Library. Before Yahoo! Bill led User Experience at Sabre Airline Solutions and co-founded Rico (an open source AJAX framework).


Michael Scherotter is an Industry Architect for Media and Communications with Microsoft Corporation based out of San Francisco. As part of Microsoft’s Communications Sector evangelism team, Michael focuses on interactive client solutions for communications and media companies. Educated as an architect, Michael Scherotter brings a sense of creativity and design to synergistic software development and throughout his 13-year career in software development, Michael has specialized in combining software in innovative ways. He architected and developed desktop CAD applications for Boise Cascade Corporation, managed software development teams at Mindjet Corporation, and engaged with partners as a Business Solutions Architect at Mindjet by creating and building solutions for the popular community site mindjetlabs.com. Michael has a Bachelors of Architecture and a Masters of Architecture specializing in Design Tool Development.
